The Valley Christian Trojans had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.6 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Monday. They skirted past Coolidge 44-42. That's another feather in the cap for Valley Christian, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Valley Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gracie Miraglia, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Ellie Phillips was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six assists.
Coolidge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Amaira Miguel, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaysia White, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Coolidge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Christian only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Valley Christian's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-3. As for Coolidge, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-9.
Valley Christian will take on Florence at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Florence will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 195th, while Valley Christian is ranked 27th). As for Coolidge, they will head out on the road to take on Thatcher at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Coolidge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Monday.
