Venus is 2-8 against Alvarado since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Venus Bulldogs will be home for the holidays to greet the Alvarado Indians at 5:45 p.m. Venus is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 65-20, which was the final score in Venus' tilt against Godley on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Venus can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1021st, while Godley is ranked 157th).
Meanwhile, Alvarado got the win against Ferris on Friday by a conclusive 49-29. The win made it back-to-back wins for Alvarado.
Alvarado relied on the efforts of Candra Bridgewater, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds, and Joslyn Jarmon, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bridgewater has scored at least 25% of Alvarado's points. Lauren Melson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Venus now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Alvarado, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11.
Venus was taken down by Alvarado 69-23 in their previous meeting back in January. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Venus was down 34-11.
