Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Walnut Grove

With a playoff win on the line, Walnut Grove rose to the challenge on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Reedy Lions a 10-0 shutout. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 games by six runs or more this season.

Lyndsey Hooker made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Walnut Grove let Vivian McKernan and Penelope Robles run wild. McKernan went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Robles went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave Robles a new career-high. Ella Berlage was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Walnut Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Reedy only posted an OBP of .364.

The win (which was Walnut Grove's fourth in a row) raised their record to 25-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Reedy, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-12.

Coming up, Walnut Grove will square off against Lake Belton on Saturday. The Broncos will roll in looking for their 24th straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. Reedy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
