Meanwhile, Fairfield got the win against Greenwood on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Maddy Payne was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Addison Welch was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sophia Klinedinst, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Fairfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenwood only managed three hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Fairfield and bumps their season record up to 3-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for York County Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. York County Tech has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .504. However, it's not like Fairfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .456. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
