The Exeter Monarchs will head out to square off against the Reedley Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last five games Exeter has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
While Exeter's win against Central Valley Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Monarchs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-13 victory over the Cavaliers on Tuesday. The Monarchs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Exeter got a massive performance out of Mishka Mendez, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave Mendez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanie Uruchurtu, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Mendez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Exeter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Reedley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Selma. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Reedley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avana Urbieta, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Reedley's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Exeter, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 10-5.
Reedley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Exeter has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game.
