St. Dominic is 0-4 against Fryeburg since May of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Saints will head out to square off against the Raiders at 4:00 p.m. St. Dominic knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Fryeburg likes a good challenge.
St. Dominic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: North Yarmouth Academy, who was ranked 19th at the time (St. Dominic was ranked 20th). The Saints put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 12-3 win on Wednesday. Considering the Saints have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Madeline Andrews spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Dominic got a big performance out of Piper Croteau, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Croteau a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Franciose, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: St. Dominic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Fryeburg earned an 8-5 victory over Oxford Hills on May 5th. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.
Fryeburg also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Presli Knapp gave up just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits.
At the plate, Reagan Wilson was a standout: she got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Carlin Galligan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
St. Dominic pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Fryeburg, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Fryeburg's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. Dominic has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Fryeburg, though, as they've been averaging 12.7 hits. Given St. Dominic's sizable advantage in that area, the Raiders will need to find a way to close that gap.
St. Dominic suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Fryeburg when the teams last played back in May of 2021. Can the Saints avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
