Baseball Recap: Friday's Win Is Medway's Fourth in Last Five Outings

While Medway didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Nipmuc Regional Warriors by a score of 8-3 on Friday. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered a 3-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Johnny Farrell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other pitching news, Matt Olynciw looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Medway got a big performance out of Jack Heavner, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those stolen bases marked the first that Heavner has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Aidan Tkowski, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.

Medway has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Nipmuc Regional, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Medway will challenge Westwood at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Nipmuc Regional, they will face off against Boston Latin Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Dragons' pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
