The Battle Creek Academy Tigers gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They walked away with a 50-40 victory over Athens. This was payback for Battle Creek Academy, who suffered a 40-34 loss the last time these two teams met.
Battle Creek Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jordan Morey out in front who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Thomson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Several Indians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Addison Stanton, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Heath Tigges, who scored 12 points.
Battle Creek Academy's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Athens, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Battle Creek Academy will take on Heritage Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Athens, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bellevue at 7:30 p.m.
