The A-Tech Panthers and the Sunset Park HEAT, after both having extra time off, will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It was a proper cat-fight when A-Tech challenged Van Arsdale last Monday. The Panthers came out on top against the Cardinals by a score of 7-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Jovanny Frias made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Frias was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Diaz, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Justin Rivera, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Sunset Park made sure to put some runs up on the board against CSI International Studies last Wednesday. The HEAT were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over CSI International Studies. The HEAT's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like A-Tech, Sunset Park also got a great game from a two-way player: Yibran Espinoza. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, Espinoza is now averaging an impressive 6 strikeouts per game. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Oscar Garcia was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times he's played. Reagan Capellan also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Sunset Park's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for A-Tech, their record is now 2-0.
