Stoneman Douglas is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Cypress Bay. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Stoneman Douglas got a great performance from Daniel Tartaglia as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Tartaglia has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Stoneman Douglas' win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gio Rojas, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another was Brody Gargiulo, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
Taravella came out on top against Western on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Trojans took their contest against the Wildcats 9-4.
Bryson Plante looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on JC Martinez, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Toizol, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Taravella always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western only posted an OBP of .323.
Stoneman Douglas pushed their record up to 25-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Taravella, their victory bumped their record up to 17-11.
Stoneman Douglas came out on top in a nail-biter against Taravella when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
