Baseball Game Preview: Stevenson Pirates vs. Monte Vista Christian Mustangs

For the second straight game, Stevenson will face off against Monte Vista Christian. The Pirates will head out to take on the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Stevenson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Stevenson proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Monte Vista Christian, sneaking past 3-2.

Phinn Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jacob Hall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reggie Bell, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Stevenson pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Monte Vista Christian, they moved to 14-4 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Stevenson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game.
