Baseball Recap: Mount Airy Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Mount Airy and Union Academy squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Mount Airy had to settle for second. They fell 12-8 to the Cardinals. The Granite Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mount Airy saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Gallimore, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. The Granite Bears are 3-1 when Gallimore posts two or more runs, but 6-13 otherwise. Another was Matthew Barnes, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Mount Airy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Union Academy, their record is now 10-15.

Mount Airy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Union Academy, they will challenge North Stokes on Friday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Cardinals' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
