Volleyball Game Preview: Canon City Tigers vs. Pueblo South Colts

The Canon City Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Pueblo South Colts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Mesa Ridge wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Canon City, they should've done a better job of containing Mason Lenard. The Tigers came out on top against the Grizzlies by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday with plenty of help from Lenard, who had 25 digs. He has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last four times he's played.

Canon City walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the third set). The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 24-26, 25-13, 25-23.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Pueblo South and The Vanguard School meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Colts blew past the Coursers 3-0.

Pueblo South was especially dominant in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-21, 25-14.

Pueblo South has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Canon City, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-9.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Canon City hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 5.2 blocks per game. However, it's not like Pueblo South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.9 blocks. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Canon City beat Pueblo South 3-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
