The Flowing Wells Caballeros will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against the Mountain View Mountain Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Flowing Wells has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Flowing Wells lost 11-3 to Walden Grove on Tuesday. The Caballeros have struggled against the Red Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Diego Kisner put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Oscar Murillo was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.
Meanwhile, Mountain View never let their opponents score on Saturday. They were the clear victor by an 18-0 margin over Sabino. With that victory, the Mountain Lions brought their scoring average up to 8.5 runs per game.
Like Flowing Wells, Mountain View also got a great game from a two-way player: Patrick Robbins. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Robbins a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Spencer Thiel and Andrew Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: Thiel scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Garcia scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Thiel a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Ayden Stott, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Mountain View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win got Mountain View back to even at 2-2. As for Flowing Wells, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2-1.
Flowing Wells skirted past Mountain View 8-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Flowing Wells repeat their success, or does Mountain View have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
