The Sotomayor WILDCATS had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They claimed a resounding 61-32 victory over Floresville at home. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 21 to 9 on the offensive boards, as Sotomayor did.
Sotomayor found their leader in underclassman Jordan Pete, who scored 19 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Pete has scored at least 25% of Sotomayor's points. Averi Carter was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 7 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Floresville lost on Tuesday, one person who can't be blamed is Jordin Johns. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. The matchup was Johns' third in a row with at least ten points.
Sotomayor's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Floresville, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sotomayor will take on O'Connor at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully O'Connor focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday. As for Floresville, they will head out on the road to face off against Victoria East at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
