The WestSide Renegades are taking a road trip to challenge the James Monroe Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
WestSide picked up another tournament win on Monday. They came out on top against Mingo Central by a score of 9-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Renegades.
Charlie Hawks was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Hawks was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zachary Short, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, James Monroe waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Miners with a sharp 14-4 win. That's two games straight that the Mavericks have won by exactly ten runs.
Like WestSide, James Monroe also got a great game from a two-way player: Kadyn Hines. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Hines has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 13 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Peyton Gardinier was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. James Monroe is undefeated when Gardinier posts two or more runs, but 10-12 otherwise. Baylee Ridgeway was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
James Monroe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
James Monroe's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-12. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for WestSide, their record now sits at 9-17.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. WestSide has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like James Monroe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
