Basketball Recap: Crawfordsville Takes a Loss

Crawfordsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost to the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights on the road by a 56-40 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Athenians of the 63-61 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Crawfordsville saw an underclassman step up: freshman Johnovan Smith went 9-for-20 en route to 21 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Jaxon Wireman also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Mikey Stapleton had an outrageously good game for Lafayette Central Catholic as he went 9-for-12 on his way to 22 points and five boards. What's more, Stapleton also posted a 75% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Bobby Metzger, who posted nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Crawfordsville's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crawfordsville will venture away from home to challenge Danville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, they will head out on the road to square off against Logansport at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
