The Fleming County Panthers will face off against the East Carter Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fleming County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Fleming County had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Bath County put an end to it on Monday. Fleming County wound up with the same score they had in their last game (11-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Their defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Fleming County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trinty Flora, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, East Carter waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Stephany Tussey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Haleigh Hall was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Adriana Cordle was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
East Carter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .720. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in nine consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Fleming County's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for East Carter, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fleming County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like East Carter struggles in that department as they've averaged .553. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fleming County couldn't quite get it done against East Carter in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 as they fell 4-1. Will Fleming County have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
