If the Pettus Eagles were riding high off their 50-28 takedown of the Bruni Badgers on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Pettus fell just short of Hebbronville by a score of 39-37. Pettus lost against Hebbronville in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 52-14 score last time.
Pettus lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Desmond Montoya, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Montoya continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Orr, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Hebbronville can attribute much of their success to Jeffery Shreve, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him.
Pettus' loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Hebbronville, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Pettus is on the road again on Friday and play against Austwell-Tivoli at 7:45 p.m. on December 15th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Austwell-Tivoli is ranked 1591st, while Pettus is ranked 1608th). As for Hebbronville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Odem at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
