Newby was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring three  runs and  stealing a base while  getting on base  in three of his five plate appearances.
 In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Tyler Ingles, who  scored two  runs and  stole a base while  getting on base  in two of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was  Canon Ruby, who  went 2-for-4 with three  RBI.
 Valmeyer's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Steeleville, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won four of their last five contests,  which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record  this season.
 Valmeyer will head out on the road to  take on  North Clay/Clay City at 10:00  a.m.  on Saturday.
