Basketball Recap: All Saints' Academy Drops Season-High Score on Bishop Mclaughlin Catholic

All Saints' Academy scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 71-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes. The loss continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, All Saints' Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jayden Watson went 8 of 17 en route to 21 points and six steals. Watson has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jafar Curry JR, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 12 points.

Even though they lost, All Saints' Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Leading Bishop McLaughlin Catholic to victory were Jacob Mekdeci and Alexavier Dorval-Ferris. Mekdeci went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and three steals, while Dorval-Ferris dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Mekdeci continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Conor Whalen was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

All Saints' Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
