After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Yarbrough, the Deerfield Spartans were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Pawnee Heights by a score of 55-46. Winning is a bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, as Deerfield did.
Deerfield found their leader in underclassman Colten Musil, who scored 25 points. Musil is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Michael Lira, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Davin Hamby, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. Brady Carlson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Deerfield's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Pawnee Heights, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deerfield's road trip will continue as they head out to face Greeley County on February 9th. Hopefully Deerfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Tuesday. As for Pawnee Heights, they will head out on the road to square off against Ingalls at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
