The Albany Cougars will take on the Marin Catholic Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Albany will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Campolindo on Tuesday. Albany was the clear victor by a 10-1 margin over Campolindo.
Tehya Hancock made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauren Jones, who scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Anya Fox was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Marin Catholic had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 12-2 victory. Marin Catholic's win was all the more impressive since the Cardinals were averaging only 3.7 runs allowed on the season.
Bella Ferrety was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Grace Berringer, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Marin Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Marin Catholic pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Albany, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Albany hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Marin Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .404. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Albany skirted past Marin Catholic 3-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
