The Hillcrest Hawks fell victim to the Bremen Braves''s stalwart defense on Saturday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 34-0 loss at the hands of the Braves. Hillcrest has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gary Bradley threw for 50 yards on six of 17 attempts. Maurice Garrett was his top target, picking up 45 receiving yards and no touchdowns.
Bremen got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nehemiah Rogers out in front who rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Another player making a difference was London Blackmon, who gained 45 total yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Hillcrest to a paltry 126 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Bremen's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out nine times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
Hillcrest's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Bremen, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hillcrest will face off against Carbondale at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Carbondale will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Bremen, they will head out on the road to face off against Kankakee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kankakee knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully Bremen likes a good challenge.
