Given Gilbert Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Verrado is ranked 163rd), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jace Olson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 4 assists. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Owen Fermoyle, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Gilbert Christian and bumps their season record up to 9-2. As for Verrado, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gilbert Christian will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fountain Hills at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. As for Verrado, they will head out on the road to face off against Greenway at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Greenway is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
