The Vista del Lago Eagles will square off against the Central Catholic Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Vista del Lago is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Dixon 11-9.
Vista del Lago got a great performance from Alayna Piexoto as she pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Lauren Aubrey and Jillian McGuire did most of the damage at the plate: Aubrey went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while McGuire went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits Aubrey has posted since back in March of 2024. Peyton Huber also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Vista del Lago was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the Warriors. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won 19 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Stephanie Garcia looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Central Catholic let Madie Harrison and Samantha Nichols run wild. Harrison went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Nichols went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmarie Roberts, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Vista del Lago has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Central Catholic, they pushed their record up to 24-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.
Vista del Lago skirted past Central Catholic 7-5 in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
