After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Keswick Christian, the St. Petersburg Green Devils were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They strolled past Northeast with points to spare, taking the game 39-25. That's another feather in the cap for St. Petersburg, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
St. Petersburg can attribute much of their success to Ella Abernethy, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Curro, who scored eight points.
Northeast's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayley Missory, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Missory has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tarynn Gunter, who scored three points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
The victory got St. Petersburg back to even at 1-1. As for Northeast, their loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-2.
St. Petersburg will be playing in front of their home fans against Lakewood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakewood presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than St. Petersburg in Florida (Lakewood is ranked 144th, while St. Petersburg is ranked 321st). As for Northeast, they will head out on the road to face off against Osceola at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
