Basketball Recap: Columbus Skates Past Baxter Springs with Ease

Columbus came into Friday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Baxter Springs Lions 45-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Titans have posted since January 19, 2024.

Columbus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Katy Mooney led the charge by putting up 18 points. Brylie Johnson was another key player, posting 11 points.

Columbus' win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Baxter Springs, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbus will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Galena on January 28th. Columbus has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Baxter Springs will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against St. Mary's-Colgan at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th.
