Decatur Community hasn't had much luck against Hitchcock County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out. Hitchcock County took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Decatur Community, who comes in off a win.
Decatur Community will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating St. Francis, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Red Devils came out on top against the Indians by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Decatur Community took both sets by at least ten points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-15.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Hitchcock County and Rawlins County, and Rawlins County kept the tradition alive. The Falcons fell just short of the Buffaloes by a score of 3-2 on Monday. While the Falcons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Buffaloes 25-8 in the first set.
Hitchcock County actually scored more points across those five sets (106-85), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 8-25, 27-25, 25-23, 10-25, 15-8.
Despite the defeat, Hitchcock County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Emma Hagan had 14 digs and four aces. Those 14 digs set a new season-high mark for Hagan.
Decatur Community's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Hitchcock County, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Decatur Community has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Hitchcock County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Decatur Community came up short against Hitchcock County in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 2-0. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
