The Simmons Blue Devils will head out to face off against the Leflore County Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Simmons put up the most points they have all season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on South Delta with a sharp 19-4 victory. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Quentoris Wallace was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Wallace is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least three every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Lawrence Woods, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Simmons always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Leflore County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against West Bolivar on Wednesday as Leflore County made off with a 20-14 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Daveon Jones was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing nine bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those nine stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Donovan Leflore also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Leflore County's record is now 2-6. As for Simmons, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Simmons has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .564. However, it's not like Leflore County struggles in that department as they've averaged .634. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Simmons came out on top in a nail-biter against Leflore County in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, sneaking past 14-13. The rematch might be a little tougher for Simmons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
