Softball Recap: Delphi Community Comes Up Short

Delphi Community dropped their record down to 11-11 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 14-6 to the Lewis Cass Kings. Oracles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Kings since on Saturday.

Sami Leopard and Mady Anderson did some serious damage despite the final result: Leopard went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Anderson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Abie Pearson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Lewis Cass, their record is now 7-11. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

On Lewis Cass' side, Ruth (Amma) Fitzhugh made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Fitzhugh has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Laney Davis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Hannah Penn, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Delphi Community wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Clinton Central on the 19th. As for Lewis Cass, they have also already played their next game, a 10-1 victory against Wabash on the 19th.
