Van Nuys extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 7-8. They came up short against the Sylmar Spartans, falling 21-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-2 back in March.

Van Nuys saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was ARIEL PUENTE, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. PUENTE has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
As for Sylmar, they pushed their record up to 12-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.8 runs over those games.
On Sylmar's side, Natalia Gutierrez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Gutierrez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Maya Salceda was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Cristabel Carreon was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Coming up, Van Nuys is taking a road trip to take on Fulton at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 21.46 runs per game on average), something the Wolves will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Sylmar, they will venture away from home to challenge Monroe at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
