The Piedmont Classical Bobcats entered their tilt with the Morehead Panthers with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Piedmont Classical sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-45 win over Morehead on Friday. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 16 to 3 on the offensive boards, as Piedmont Classical did.
Piedmont Classical's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ge'Kayla Goins, who scored 14 points along with seven steals. Goins has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Keniya Waring, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Morehead saw an underclassman step up: Destiny Minter scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 46.7% of Morehead's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ananhi Morales was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Piedmont Classical has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. As for Morehead, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedmont Classical will face off against Bishop McGuinness at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop McGuinness knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Piedmont Classical likes a good challenge. As for Morehead, they will head out on the road to face off against Reidsville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Morehead focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
