3A - North recap September 10, 2013
Judge Memorial's Michael Kearns recorded the longest rushing play in 3A - North this season in his game against Park City last week. Kearns scampered for 80 yards on the play and finished with 93 on the day as his team defeated the Miners.
Grantsville and Manti played the most contested game in the league this week, with Grantsville eventually emerging with a 34-33 victory. Nephi Meono threw for 50 yards and ran for 70 yards during the win.
Ben SAUNDERS and KADE CARRIGAN gave Morgan a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. SAUNDERS threw for 160 yards, while CARRIGAN ran for 119 yards. Teammate Spencer Larsen added to the ground attack by rushing for 43 yards.
SAUNDERS and CARRIGAN gave the Trojans a balanced attack through the air and ground last week.
CARRIGAN was the best running back in the league this week.
Kelton Price made the biggest impact on defense this week as Emery lost to Delta. The 6-foot-2 senior.
SAUNDERS put up the best numbers through the air as Morgan topped Ben Lomond. SAUNDERS's favorite target this week was Christian Elton, who caught 3 passes for 74 yards.
Nic Smith was the best receiver in 3A - North this week as Union fell to Uintah. Smith tallied 4 receptions for 84 yards. Vil Lutui helped Union's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 48 yards.
Kaden Elliss was a passing and rushing force as Judge Memorial topped Park City. He completed 4 passes for 96 yards and also ran for 91 yards. Elliss' favorite target this week was Braden Pelly, who caught 2 passes for 69 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Cougars' Tye Winterton and Smith have proven to be a lethal combination. Winterton has thrown for 412 yards this season, while Smith has 5 catches for 167 yards. The Spartans' Ryan Cox leads the league in rushing yards with 365.
Kovi Christiansen's team took down the Scots 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. SAUNDERS in the win.
