Two dominant guards in Keon Hill and Malachi Barnes are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hoover Patriots will head out on the road to take on the Sunnyside Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Hoover sitting on seven straight victories and the Wildcats on six.
Even though Roosevelt scored an imposing 55 points on Friday, Hoover still came out on top. Hoover managed a 60-55 victory over the Rough Riders. Winning is a bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, as Hoover did.
Hoover found their leader in underclassman Hill, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryant Bell, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside beat the Toros 60-52 on Monday. Given Sunnyside's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Toros are ranked 796th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hoover's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-9. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Sunnyside, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Hoover didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against the Wildcats in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 73-68 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hoover since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
