Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Thursday. Washington County blew past Clarke County 18-7. Washington County might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Allie Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off two hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Washington County let Bella Turner and Emma Richardson run wild. Turner scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Richardson went 2-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple was Richardson's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Snow, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Washington County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clarke County only posted a batting average of .222.
The win made it two in a row for Washington County and bumps their season record up to 12-13. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Clarke County, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington County will be taking part in a tournament against Southern Choctaw at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Clarke County, they will head out to challenge Jackson at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
