Quincy is a perfect 3-0 against Concord since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Orioles will square off against the Yellowjackets at 3:45 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Quincy's win against Hillsdale wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Orioles narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Hornets 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Orioles have posted since May 18, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Christian Craven, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Estlow, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Concord ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past Lenawee Christian 11-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Yellowjackets considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Nate Fritz and Jordan Medellion made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Fritz struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Medellion didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. At bat, Fritz scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5, while Medellion scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Dustin Hamilton was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Gavin Riske was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Concord has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Quincy, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Quincy came out on top in a nail-biter against Concord in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Orioles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
