The power rankings have experienced a modest tune-up after last week's playoff battles. The action included a dizzyingly high 107-point combined score from Gonzaga Prep and Eastlake.
Can't Touch This
Lake Stevens got a 56 - 42 win over Curtis last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Tre' Long. Long tossed the ball for 355 yards and three TDs. That performance landed Long among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Gonzaga Prep (11th in the power rankings) and Eastlake (20th). Gonzaga Prep finished ahead of Eastlake by a score of 56 - 51. Even if it didn't bump Gonzaga Prep up the rankings, the win at least kept the team from dropping.
Movin on Up
Rainier Beach will have a better view of things this week after its strong showing last week propelled it 11 spots up the power rankings. That was the biggest rise of the week. It didn't have too many spare points, but it still walked away with a 14 - 7 win. Nonetheless, the team will need to do a better job of protecting the quarterback (who was sacked four times) if it wants to ensure its future success.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Mount Si (5th in the power rankings) and Puyallup (3rd). The teams have their eyes fixed on the championship after last-week playoff conquests. Given their high-scoring efforts against their previous opponents, we'll see how far they can run the score up this week.
