Basketball Recap: Medgar Evers College Prep Takes a Loss

Medgar Evers College Prep was the 74-42 winner over Gaynor when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Medgar Evers College Prep were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 44-43 to Gaynor.

Despite the loss, Medgar Evers College Prep still got an impressive performance from Tyree Keitt, who went 11 for 21 on his way to 28 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Keitt's morning made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Messiah Forde, who posted nine points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Medgar Evers College Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Medgar Evers College Prep's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Gaynor, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Medgar Evers College Prep and Prospect Heights will round out the year against one another at at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. As for Gaynor, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Westinghouse at 5:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Westinghouse knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Gaynor likes a good challenge.
