The Crystal City Javelinas came tearing into Thursday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They wrapped up 2023 with a 67-48 win over Lutheran. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Crystal City also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Crystal City was led to victory by Eli Mata and Christopher Mena. Mata dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Mena scored 24 points along with six assists and three steals. The game was Mena's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Rousseau, who scored eight points.
Crystal City's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Lutheran, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing San Marcos HomeSchool the next time they take the court. Crystal City will head out to face San Marcos HomeSchool at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, while Lutheran will head out to face them at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
