The Coronado Dons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against St. Mary's, falling 65-16. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Coronado has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Coronado had strong showings from Ariel Douglas, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds, and Jayda Begay, who scored no points. Douglas hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for seven straight games.
St. Mary's found their leader in underclassman Alondra Reyes, who scored 16 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. Reyes set a new season high mark in assists with five. Another player making a difference was Gwen Carter, who scored 12 points.
Coronado's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for St. Mary's, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coronado will be home for the holidays to greet Arizona College Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. St. Mary's will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Flagstaff at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
