Basketball Recap: South Elgin Drops Highest Score of Season Against Streamwood

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Elgin). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 68-65 win over the Streamwood Sabres on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 61-57 back in December of 2024.

Streamwood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Joseph Reyes, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 16 points and six assists. That's the most points Reyes has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Byron Walton, who went 6 of 12 en route to 16 points.

South Elgin's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-16. As for Streamwood, they dropped their record down to 5-19 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.

South Elgin and Streamwood could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. South Elgin (ranked 507th) will meet Downers Grove North (ranked 41st) at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Streamwood will square off against Lyons at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday down 407 places (606 vs. 199).
