The Hozho Academy Wolves will square off against the Navajo Pine Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hozho Academy has six straight victories, Navajo Pine has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Hozho Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Bosque, taking the game 9-4.
Hozho Academy let Philip Elkins and Brody Brown run wild. Elkins scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Brown went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Brown has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Keihin Kirk, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Navajo Pine lost 19-6 to Oak Grove Classical Academy on Saturday.
Joshua Martinez put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Sandoval, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. Kaidyn Nez was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Hozho Academy pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Navajo Pine, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hozho Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Navajo Pine struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
