The Brunswick Pirates won the last time they faced the Grovetown Warriors, and things went their way on Saturday too. Brunswick came out on top against Grovetown by a score of 45-36.
Brunswick was led to victory by Jakai Alston and Shania Jones. Alston dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Jones dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Lauryn Walker was another key contributor, scoring three points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Grovetown lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jai Ruffin, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Rhianna Williams, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.
The win got Brunswick back to even at 8-8. As for Grovetown, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-9.
Brunswick and Effingham County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Effingham County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 419th, while Brunswick is ranked 123rd). As for Grovetown, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lakeside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
