On Friday, the Herriman Mustangs faced the Riverton Silverwolves in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Herriman walked away with a 73-63 win over Riverton. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Herriman's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cale Barclay led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlo Mulford, who scored 19 points.
Riverton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Barrus, who scored 22 points. Zach Edwards was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.
Herriman is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Riverton, their loss dropped their record down to 15-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Herriman will challenge Bingham at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Bingham's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches. As for Riverton, they will head out on the road to take on Copper Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverton is facing Copper Hills at the right time seeing as Copper Hills is stuck on a eight-game losing streak.
