The Mustang Broncos entered their tilt with the Piedmont Wildcats with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Mustang enjoyed a cozy 55-38 win over Piedmont on Friday. Given Mustang's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Piedmont is ranked 170th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mustang to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cherish Haywood, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Haywood is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mya Alston, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Mustang's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Piedmont, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mustang and MacArthur will face off on January 20th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Piedmont's road trip will continue as they head out to face Capitol Hill at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th.
