Baseball Recap: Newport Has No Trouble Against East Juniata

Newport won the last time they faced East Juniata and things went their way on Friday too. The Buffaloes put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 15-4 victory. Considering the Buffaloes have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Aden Banks made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Newport got a massive performance out of Jameson Cummins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Landon Cigic, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Newport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Juniata only posted a batting average of .261.

Newport is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for East Juniata, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Newport will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Juniata at 4:30 p.m. on the 14th. The Buffaloes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for East Juniata, they have already played their next game, a 10-2 defeat against Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy on the 9th.
