III Section II recap Nov. 7, 2012
Sunrise Mountain took down Sahuarita 62-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Neiman Sneed threw for 130 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 101 yards in the win.
The Mustangs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,054 from 3,169. The advance stemmed from a 62-21 victory over the Mustangs last week.
Liberty's dynamic duo of Tyler Rogers and Brandon Murphy proved tough for Paradise Valley to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rogers threw for 218 yards and four touchdowns and Murphy had 116 yards receiving. Tanner Wills helped Liberty's passing attack out by catching two balls for 57 yards.
Ryan Wood made the biggest impact on defense this week as Sunrise Mountain bested Sahuarita. The 6-foot-0 defensive back grabbed one interception.
Corey Brown was the most productive running back in III Section II this week. He ran for 169 yards on 15 carries as James Carter's team topped the Trojans. Teammate Elijah Castro added to the ground attack by rushing for 162 yards.
6-foot-3 quarterback Rogers of Liberty is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2591. He has also thrown 29 touchdowns. On the ground, Greenway's Mark Dogbah has rushed for 2342 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Elroy Masters. The Sunrise Mountain star has 44 catches for 1118 yards.
The Mustangs led the league in scoring this week after putting up 62 points on David Rodriguez's team. Sneed in the win.
