Baseball Recap: Walnut Grove Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Walnut Grove extended their postseason success on Wednesday against Ola. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Gary Staffins and Brayden Kelly did most of the damage at the plate: Staffins went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Kelly went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Walnut Grove is undefeated when Kelly posts two or more runs, but 11-12 otherwise. Jarrod Cook was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Walnut Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.

Walnut Grove pushed their record up to 19-12 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ola, their defeat dropped their record down to 28-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Walnut Grove beat the Mustangs by a score of 8-4 on Friday.
