Softball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for Pine River Area

Pine River Area waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They never let the Frankfort Panthers get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The Bucks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by seven runs or more this season.

Not much got past Kylee Mumby, who gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Frankfort off the board. Mumby has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Pine River Area saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Felsk, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Mary Nichols was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Pine River Area's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Frankfort, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Pine River Area has already played their next contest, a 5-2 win against Traverse City College Prep Academy on the 10th. As for Frankfort, they will venture away from home to square off against Onekama at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Portagers have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
